FIA Super Licence Points

The FIA Super Licence is a requirement for any driver looking to compete in Formula 1 and drivers must accumulate points over a three-year period prior to their intended F1 debut to make them eligible for an FIA Super Licence. The BRDC British Formula 3 Championship enables drivers to gain points towards their Super Licence with a top-five finish in the overall standings.

40 points are required over a three-year term to meet the FIA requirements to be issued a Super Licence and a driver can get a significant amount of these by competing in BRDC British F3. The overall winner of the championship will gain 10 points towards their Super Licence, with the runner-up receiving seven points. Third place overall will be awarded five points with fourth place receiving three points and fifth place gaining one point towards their Super Licence.

If a driver wins the BRDC British Formula 3 Championship therefore, they would only need to finish in the top-two of the FIA European F3 Championship once over the course of the next two years to become eligible for an FIA Super Licence.
